Should Really Update This

Wow. What’s it been…almost two months since I updated this. Okay, that’s not totally awesome, is it. So, here’s a few updates on various things.

Writing: Next time, I promise not to promise that a story will be done by any time; that literally never happens. What was formerly called “Kiss Her Already!” is now “A Night To Remember” and still not done yet. I’ve started the third scene and am only about 3200 words in, so it’s got a ways to go yet; apologies if you had been expecting it several weeks ago and have been waiting in agony.

I’ve also begun two other stories — much shorter stories, mind you — that I hope to not spend too much time on before they’re done. Titles? “The Silent Judges” and “On The Run”. But that’s all you’ll get about them for now.

Lastly (in writing), I’ve got bad news for those of you who remember and enjoyed reading my story “Because It’s Fun”. The news being: I’m not continuing it. Yeah, you read right and no, this isn’t a horribly belated April Fools joke. Hard to explain at the moment, but to put it simply, the story was an experiment; the immediate results of it couldn’t erase the possible long term side-effects. Plus, it isn’t representative of my skills anymore. Actually, it’s less of ‘I’m not’ and more of ‘I can’t’.

Game Development: …It’s going okay. Since my last post, I learned a lot of things that would’ve made the first assignment a lot easier, along with everything before that, but, that’s obviously how it goes: Learn it the hard/tedious/boring way first, then you get to do it in a much, much, much easier way.

The second assessment I’ve got is to create Space Invaders. Once again, it wouldn’t seem to be the most difficult task, but, of course, it’s quite complex to meet the requirements. Plus, I lost three of the five weeks given to my being out of town at the start of April. Still, I’m sure I’ll pull something together in time, maybe. …Possibly. …Hopefully.

Out of Town: As I said, I was out of town from 3 to 11 April. Why/what for? Not really important. Got a free notebook — the paper ones, not what some call their laptops — while I was gone; rather than use it for journaling as the intention was, I used it to take notes for and write my stories while I was without any technology more advanced than my torch.

I did happen to notice something while I took notes and wrote: I write a lot! Why did no one ever bring this to my attention? Stories I got more work done on were “A Night To Remember”, “Grow Up And Die, Kid”, which I’m trying to think of a better title for, and one that I started writing specifically for the time I spent that week, “Lead The Way”, which was mostly to increase Creativity.

I’ll sum up the week in a few short, out of context ‘lessons’:

1 – You can get a mighty crapload of stuff done in one day when none of it is relatively enjoyable.
2 – 5 a.m wakeup calls really aren’t that bad if your body clock has been put off prior.
3 – Getting your hand stepped on is going to hurt. A lot.
4 – Don’t wear jeans when you know you’re gonna get very, very wet.
5 – Always have plenty of spare underwear in case you get a pair very, very wet.
6 – Fact of our biology: You are going to settle for disgusting mush for dinner when it’s your only option.
7 – It’s not called a rainforest just ’cause it sounds exotic, but they are the coolest looking places on Earth nonetheless.
8 – Grown men will regress to hysterical children at the sight of a leech once the first 10 minutes, when they were super cool, have passed.
9 – There is no possible way to get a three point speech to fit into 30 seconds.
10 – Bongos are fun.
11 – Bandits will chase you into the strangest of situations.
12 – Don’t wear jeans even when you don’t know that you’re gonna get very, very wet. And covered in shaving foam. And unable to shower immediately, or for 20 minutes, for that matter.
13 – Don’t ever go without technology for one week if you even remotely follow any feeds on the Internet.
14 – No matter how impossible it might seem, get enough sleep.
15 – Ninja is an awesomely addicting game.
16 – Common sense apparently isn’t that common.
17 – Never put your complete trust in the map.
18 – If you’ve come from another state, plenty of strangers will want to chat to you.
19 – Don’t break your only pen if you’re gonna want to use it on a long trip across the state.
20 – Life is amazing. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may. Carpe Diem. Etcetera, etcetera. But seriously.

Okay, so maybe ‘a few’ was a slight understatement, but I didn’t expect that many.

There’s a great many other things I want to comment on, those being all related to news in gaming, technology, videos on the Internet and blah blah blah, but they’re better said on the forums and chats that relate to them better. I had wanted to put a list of sites that I frequent if you wanted to get my thoughts on said ‘things’ and sites that I feel you should just check out, but since that would’ve required more effort than I’m prepared to put in at this late hour, I’ll just not bother.

Downside is that I can’t think of a way to end this post now. Let’s see…

Nope, tried for half an hour and couldn’t come up with anything that felt right.

Okay, that’s it. I’ll post again at some point, but until then, that’s what’s happening with me.

Regards,

≈Roy

I will never know the end! Oh well, as long as you can churn out some other awesome crap I’ll probably forget about it.

LOL I’ll take your words of wisdom to heart. Mind if I quote them elsewhere?

I was going to reply to your other comment before I saw this one, but now…

Quote away, so long as a link back here is supplied along with it.
